My blog, my rules, remember? So, I'm gonna back up a few days and share our visit to the RV/MH Hall of Fame with Barbara, Charles & John. First off, be forewarned, they will tell you up front, MH does NOT stand for motorhome, as we all naturally assume. Oh no, it stands for MOBILE Home, as in doublewides that roll down the road, to their desired location, then the wheels come off and the home is no longer mobile until they put the wheels back on again. It was really quite interesting (if you like RV's) and enlightening to see just how revolutionary and ahead of their time some of these early thinkers were. Some of the designs, such as the sliding door handle, are still in place today, with very little change. And the crank-up mechanisms for the canvas pop-tents are still working on today's pop-ups! Lolly & Allen, the Bounder floor plan here is soooo very similar to yours, I almost went looking for Yoda in the bedroom! It was pretty cool that they had the original sketch of the logo and the story right there with the RV.
This next one is a panoramic photo, so you'll need to click on it to bigify, so you can see it all better.
I sure do appreciate my palace on wheels, though, with its laundry closet, dishwasher, central vac and tile floors. Not to mention, onboard heat, hot water and A/C!
One of the highlights of our day, though, was getting to see our friend John, standing with Virgil Miller's original Kountry Star. I believe it was one of the very first ones off the Newmar line, and was in the Miller family for years and years. Definitely, history being made, and the people visiting with us had no idea! (For those of you that don't already know, John is sort of a big deal at Newmar, he recently retired after 32 years. He was known as the AnswerMan....as in, if you have a question, go ask John, 'cuz he'll know the answer. He's still really a big deal...I know this to be true, I've seen the admiration (and love) they still have for him.)
